Xilinx Targets Pro Video Broadcast Segment with New eSP Web Portal

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Xilinx Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX), announced today the release of a new segment on the Xilinx eSP Web portal (www.xilinx.com/esp) dedicated to accelerating the development of professional broadcast video equipment. The roll out of the new online resource compliments a related Xilinx announcement today on the extension of the Spartan-IIE family, the world's lowest cost high volume FPGA. These new devices are ideally suited for high-performance image processing and transport applications within the professional video broadcast chain which typically demand cost sensitive, IO intensive, high-gate count solutions to support high system throughput and processing of high resolution video images.

The new segment covers two key aspects of the professional broadcast market: the broadcast studio and the broadcast chain, providing a comprehensive array of solutions and information ranging from technology tutorials to system block diagrams and reference designs. Analysts predict the professional broadcast and studio market will grow from an estimated $9.4 billion in 2002 to a 13.9 billion dollar market by 2006, a CAGR of 8.9 percent*. Xilinx's comprehensive suite of solutions and focus on the broadcast segment supports the company's initiative to sustain its leadership position and increase its penetration in this multi-billion dollar market.

"Xilinx has a demonstrated history of leadership and success in a wide spectrum of digital video applications as FPGAs continue to obsolete the need for ASIC solutions," said Sandeep Vij, vice president of Worldwide Marketing at Xilinx. "The introduction of the new eSP segment with its coverage of the professional broadcast chain, combined with today's announcement of new Spartan-IIE family members, we're delivering a potent solution that is unparalleled in the industry."
